Historic Sites in Godmanchester

Island Hall

The Island Hall in Godmanchester was built in 1749, and is a well preserved brick house with a garden which includes the island in the River Ouse. The current owners of Island Hall have restored the house and gardens. In 1941 the house was used by the Women’s Auxillary Air Force which built Nissen huts in the garden.

A Chinese timber bridge connects the island to the garden leading the visitors eye trough avenues which in turn reveal Port Holme, the largest single area of meadowland still surviving in this county. 

Island Hall welcome groups with tours that last for around 1-1.5 hours. Guests can freely explore the house and gardens otherwise.
